Hello, this snowy, snowy day! I went for a run this morning and could barely see my out going tracks on my way back in! If you are in the snowy area of the US, be very careful driving and stay warm!! Speaking of snow... here is my last winter morning sky that I have to share. After the storm we are having now, I should have plenty of reference for the bottom portions of these paintings! The blues are dry but the yellow is being stubborn so I have to wait to put the trees and snow in anyway...

Good Morning!
Here we are continuing to look at the skies I have developed for my winter scenes. There are three total of various sizes. This one is 9x12. Yesterday's was 10 x 8. Tomorrow's sky is on a 20 x 10 canvas. Meanwhile I am able to work on some bark detail for my dogwoods as well. Fun stuff!

Hello!

Today we are looking at a different kind of sky for me. The other morning I was running and the sky changed about 5 times in the course of the run. One of the first views was around 8 am and the sun was just starting to tickle the bottom of the frosty clouds. It was amazing! I found some cloud photos that were very similar to the clouds I saw and introduced the yellows and pinks of early morning. I started a series of three that will play with this winter morning scene I experienced. Here is the first sky.

Hello!
Here is a sneak peak at my dogwoods as they are laying out to dry (they are next to a mirror so it looks like I've done more than I did, but I thought it was a cool picture!). I've gotten the details on the flowers, the under layer of dark bark and a layer of blue. I have to decide after the second layer of bark is on whether the blue background is finished or not. As I wait for the dark bark to dry, I think I will work on another piece related to winter. After a fresh layer of snow last night and an absolutely beautiful run Sunday morning in frosty Sharon Woods, I think a winter scene could work nicely. We shall see.

Hello! I figured since I teased you the last time I wrote that I would actually show you what I am up to in the studio now. I needed some spring pieces for a show I am composing for Valentines Day. A couple of my favorite treats in spring time are the blooming of tulips and dogwoods. I have painted both in the past but I thought I would revisit these topics for paintings because people liked them so much the last time I painted them. What you are seeing in this photo are my "sketches" in acrylic paint to lay out my dogwood branches. I am now working on the flower details in oil. More to see soon!

Hello! Here is the final piece from my series of four (I should have given the series a name!). This one is called "Evergreen Lane." I had a lot of fun with the many layers in this scene. I think I will try and create a photo of all four paintings together and see how each relates to its neighbor in the end.

For now I am starting on a whole new series for spring. It is not a new subject matter for me but feedback from my collectors is that they love the brilliant colors and simplicity of these pieces. Intriguing right??! More on that soon!

Good Morning!

As promised, here is a look at "The Path." In the end " The Meadow," "The River," and "The Path" make a nice triptych (3 paintings as 1 image). However, I was in need of four paintings that looked nice together so I have one left to complete with the same color pallet. I am working on "Evergreen Lane" today to finsh out the series of four.

Hello! Here we have it, the completion of the river scene! Today I am working on "The Path." I should have a nice photo of it tomorrow. Enjoy!

Hello! Yesterday I got quite a few trees finished behind my river. I needed to know what colors were going to be reflected in the water. Today, I will hopefully complete the piece.

Good Afternoon!

Well, I'm finally back in the studio and I am continuing to work on the series of four that we have been following. Over the weekend my paintings were on display and for sale at the Easton Home Show. It was a long show so I brought my paints with me and painted there. I was able to get a good chunk finished on two of the paintings of the four. Here is a look at one of them. This is the one I think I called "The meadow." I am working on "The river" today.

Good Morning!

Here is a photo of the next step on the new floor, the laying of the tiles. This is a beautiful stone look vinyl tile with the sticky back. I had found some spacers that made it fairly easy to be precise and keep them in line. As you can tell though, there were many custom pieces to be cut around the edges - that was a little harder and took quite a bit of time. the final look soon!

Hello!

I have not been in my studio for a few days. You know those occasions where one thing leads to another? Well, we needed to replace the refrigerator and during the replacement we noticed we also needed to replace the flooring - so guess what I've been doing? I am actually loving the new floor but my "oh it'll only take one long hard day" has turned into now day 4! What can you do? Beauty takes time I guess! Here is photo of the sub floor after the old linoleum was removed and the holes repaired. Let's follow a floor!

Good afternoon. Here we see a picture of the four pieces all with finished skies. I found out that I have paint them all at the same time so that I would be in the same state of mind for all four. I've found, as you can see comparing yesterdays cloud to todays, that I paint a little different from day to day. One day I might be more tight with my brush strokes while the next day I'll be a lot more relaxed. Crazy!

Hello!

Here is a look at some clouds I just finished. I am working on final skies now for the four pieces we have been following. More clouds soon!
