Here is a piece from the Wooded View Series that we have not been following but it's progress today was too cool to not share! More later!

Good Morning! I was looking through my past blogs and I was wondering if I had missed showing you a step on any of the four Wooded View Series we have been following. Actually, I only missed one and here it is. It is the foliage layer for this piece. I enjoyed sharing the final steps of the latest painting I finished and I am hoping to continue finishing pieces throughout this week. I will keep you posted!

Good Evening! I thought I would share the painting that we have been following the past few days as a finished piece. I am quite pleased with it and can't wait to get to work on the rest. This painting is 30 inches high by 40 inches wide, painted around the sides as usual. Enjoy!

Here is a sneak peak of what I am working on right now. I am up to my eyeballs in trees! I love it though. This piece is really starting to come alive now. enjoy... more later!

Until next time...

Hello! I have rocks and a bridge to share today. The rock colors actually dry rather quickly compared to some other colors so, time permitting, I may be able to work on the final layer of trees on this piece today and see how it looks all finished! Very fun.

Good Morning!

Here is painting 3 of 4 that we are following for the Wooded View Series with it's leaves sketched in. The next step is the rocks followed by one more layer of trees.

Good Morning! And we are back to following our Wooded View Series today. I have now added more tree shapes to this piece and looking forward to playing around with the bridge soon. This one also has the added benefit of the stream's reflections.

Okay, I finally got a nice photo of it... here is the under painting for the Yosemite Commission. The tree is missing at the moment, but it will be back shortly! I am quite excited about this piece because it reminds me of my paintings of rocks in Arizona. I will be able to add color soon!

Until next time...

Good Morning! I am continuing to work on my Wooded View Series but I wanted to follow and share a special piece I am working on as well that is a commision. This piece is inspired by some pictures taken at Yosemite National Park. I am told this is one of the first scenes you see upon entering the park. It looks beautiful (it is now on my list of places to visit)!! Meanwhile, here is the sketch for the commision. I'll share the underpainting later today.

Good Morning! I'm back and ready to roll. I was able to get a good chunk of work done last week including a little painting so I should be able to really go now. We are still following the progress of some paintings from my Wooded View Series. I have a second layer of leaves on a couple of them now including the one you are seeing now. I have discovered the pallet knife and have been experimenting with how to incorporate this tool into my painting process a little. I used it to add some of the leaf texture here.

Good Morning! For those of you who stop by my blog quite often, I wanted to let you know that I am taking a week off blogging for mass organizing and paper work in the studio. As artist, I have a tendency to put all that work off till the last minute and I've done it again! However, I will get myself far enough ahead that I can plan a painting marathon for next week with few interruptions and we will have quite a lot to see then. I can't wait. I'll see you first thing next Monday morning, the 23rd. Have a great week!

Hello! This weekend, as most weekends do, has filled up and I only get snippets of time in the studio. So, I have been working on a couple smaller paintings we have not been following - pieces that are more managable in a small period of time. Here is one of those finished pieces. It is 12 inches tall and 9 inches wide. Enjoy!

Good Afternoon! Here is the last of the under paintings that we are following for the Wooded Series . This is inspired by a place that sometimes has a waterfall but the photo I used shows it dry. I still have to decide if I will add water or not. Of course, I get to use my artistic license on this one!! This piece is 30" high by 40" wide - another large one!

Here is another under painting to take a peek at. I really like the shapes of the rocks in this piece. They make some interesting shadows. Enjoy!

Good Morning! Happy Monday to you! This weekend became quite eventful but I did manage to find some down time to sneak into the studio and work on some under painting. Here is the finished layer one for another of our Wooded Series. This piece is 24 tall and 48 wide. It's a big one! I also got a couple under paintings finished on smaller pieces for the same series.

Good Evening!

Here is our first look at a completed paint layer one of the Wooded View Series. Already, this piece is intriguing. I cannot wait to work on the next layer! Meanwhile, I am working on the rock and tree shadows on painting number two.

Hello! These two pieces show the sky layer in the most interesting way. I am painting the skies on each piece first, then I will shadow my rocks and trees. For many of these scenes, we will not see too much sky in the end but it will be great to see it show through the trees.

Good Morning! Last night was a fairly productive night on the Wooded Series. I finished a couple more sketches and started adding sky color to those sketches. I thought we would follow four of the larger pieces in the series since they have the biggest voices and will well represent the collection. These pieces range in size from 16 x 20 to 24 x 48. I have a few others that are smaller or other versions of the scenes we will follow and we will be able to see them when they are finished. Here are the sketches for the other two we will be looking at along the way.

Now that my butterflies are finished, I can really dive into the Wooded series I have started. I've already shown my red, textured canvases. Now I am slowly sketching out the scenery for each piece. These sketches are quite general in form right now to let me know where major trees, sky and rocks are. The first layer of paint is also very general but it's all about building up color to achieve the final look. Here are two of my sketches.

Until next time...

Good Afternoon! I thought I would share the final look for the final butterfly and flower painting. This piece is 12"x12" and is painted on board as all of the butterflies were. The texture is really smooth on these paintings . All of my butterflies have had their picture taken and are being posted on my website today on the "Flower Paintings" page (www.amykayetaylor.com)

And now... on to trees and rocks! I have some sketches started on my red textured canvases. Will share a couple of those soon!

Hi. A quick note since I did not get quite as far as I expected today. I am sharing my last butterfly's wings as I am still working on the leafy background and antenna details! More soon!

Another butterfly painting finished! I personally really like this one. I think I am attracted to both the format and the colors. There is a bit of a glare in the photo because the paint was still wet, but I wanted to share! I have been working on the final butterfly in the series today. If all goes well, I should finish by tonight or tomorrow morning.
