Hello.
As you may have noticed, I am in the first stages of all my pieces currently. I have a handful of painting sizes and shapes that I have decided I need in my booth before my first festival. So I am planning themes and paintings dependent on the needs of those collections. So, we will be seeing a few drawings and purple shadows in the near future. You may remember this sky. We started following it a long while back but it never made the cut! I have brought it out of hiding and I am going to try something new with it. Right now, I am including an intriguing little path. I think we will enjoy imagining where it will go.
Until next time...

Hello!
Here is a look at the under painting I completed for the 30 x 40 painting we just saw a drawing for. So far I am intrigued by the movement that is starting to show in this piece. It is as if it is a breezy day and the clouds are just rolling through.

Hello!
I am starting to receive acceptances to arts festivals this coming spring and summer and nothing helps better with motivation than a big ole deadline! So, I'm buckling down and really starting to think about this year's booth. I've been sorting through photos from my past excursions and getting reacquainted with all those great ideas I had for paintings! I was able to set up my booth in my studio and hang blank canvases on the walls. Now I can watch the booth come to life as I paint. Here is the first sketch for a 30 x 40 canvas I am planning. Hopefully, I will be able to photograph an under painting soon.

Good Afternoon!

Apologies for the short absence. I've been a bit under the weather and have been taking it easy for a couple days. Then, I decided the studio needed a big clean and organization plan - so - the painting took a short pause. Not to worry though, I should be back at it relatively soon! In the meantime, here are some photos of my finished dogwoods. We started following them but we never saw the finished pieces. Here are two for you to enjoy.

Good Morning!
Speaking of a good morning... here a glimpse at the final snowy morning sunrise painting. I love the depth in this piece. The peak-a-boo effect of the sunrise colors through the tree branches is really fun too. Enjoy!

Hello! You've seen the skies... now let's see the snow and trees below the skies. Here are the first two skies we saw in their finished form. These trees are inspired by ones I have been looking at out my windows during this entire storm. Depending on the day, there has been more or less snow stuck to the branches. Enjoy!

Hello, this snowy, snowy day! I went for a run this morning and could barely see my out going tracks on my way back in! If you are in the snowy area of the US, be very careful driving and stay warm!! Speaking of snow... here is my last winter morning sky that I have to share. After the storm we are having now, I should have plenty of reference for the bottom portions of these paintings! The blues are dry but the yellow is being stubborn so I have to wait to put the trees and snow in anyway...

Good Morning!
Here we are continuing to look at the skies I have developed for my winter scenes. There are three total of various sizes. This one is 9x12. Yesterday's was 10 x 8. Tomorrow's sky is on a 20 x 10 canvas. Meanwhile I am able to work on some bark detail for my dogwoods as well. Fun stuff!

Until next time...

Hello!

Today we are looking at a different kind of sky for me. The other morning I was running and the sky changed about 5 times in the course of the run. One of the first views was around 8 am and the sun was just starting to tickle the bottom of the frosty clouds. It was amazing! I found some cloud photos that were very similar to the clouds I saw and introduced the yellows and pinks of early morning. I started a series of three that will play with this winter morning scene I experienced. Here is the first sky.

Hello!
Here is a sneak peak at my dogwoods as they are laying out to dry (they are next to a mirror so it looks like I've done more than I did, but I thought it was a cool picture!). I've gotten the details on the flowers, the under layer of dark bark and a layer of blue. I have to decide after the second layer of bark is on whether the blue background is finished or not. As I wait for the dark bark to dry, I think I will work on another piece related to winter. After a fresh layer of snow last night and an absolutely beautiful run Sunday morning in frosty Sharon Woods, I think a winter scene could work nicely. We shall see.

Hello! I figured since I teased you the last time I wrote that I would actually show you what I am up to in the studio now. I needed some spring pieces for a show I am composing for Valentines Day. A couple of my favorite treats in spring time are the blooming of tulips and dogwoods. I have painted both in the past but I thought I would revisit these topics for paintings because people liked them so much the last time I painted them. What you are seeing in this photo are my "sketches" in acrylic paint to lay out my dogwood branches. I am now working on the flower details in oil. More to see soon!
