Another View

Howdy!

Yesterday was very cool when we followed Yellow Sky. I have since titled that piece "Evening Meadow." It was 36 inches wide and 24 inches high. The final trees and meadow took about 8 hours yesterday + I'd say 4 or 5 hours on the sky and tree shadows before that. People often ask how long it takes for me to finish a large painting. Usually I have so many going, I don't keep track of the time.
Show above is it's sister piece that I painted first. I titled this one "Evening Glowing" and it is 20 inches high and 16 inches wide. I like adding color to my skies. I'll get to try them out with the public eye this weekend. I am heading back to the Chicago area for the next couple of weekends. On with the show!

Final for now

Hello!

As you can tell, it has gotten dark and I have to use my flash to show the painting. So, the wet paint is definately showing! However, here is the final for Yellow Sky. I still have a chance to tweak it (I haven't signed it yet!) but I am actually pretty happy with it at the moment. I hope you enjoyed the play by play. It was actually pretty fun for me! See you again soon!

Progress on Yellow Sky

Hello!

I just now realized that I missed you yesterday. I got stuck in the studio, which, of course, is not a bad thing! I finished a couple of evergreen scenes. I'll have to share them when they are dry. I am literally in the middle of working on the final layer on Yellow Sky. Here is where I am so far. I practiced on it's smaller counterpart earlier, so I have a good idea of how it might go. You are seeing now my work on the tree line. Soon, I will be working on meadows... I'll be in touch.

Follow a Yellow Sky

Good Evening!

Hope this post finds you well. I don't have a lot to report from the studio today because I am finally actually making my way there. Today turned out to be the typical run errands and take care of business Monday. However, I am able to show you the next step of my Yellow Sky. I have been calling this layer of my paintings my "shadows." Why? Well, this particular layer has a tendency to be in shades of purple and basically just outlines where everything will go in the following layer when I get all the other colors mixed and ready to go. I feel like I'm creating their shadows, thus the term. Here you see the tree shadows and have a good idea of where the meadows will be painted. It keeps me from having to worry about composition and details all at the same time! Enjoy. I hope to show the last layer of this piece really soon. I want it to be featured at my next show.

Finishing Clouds

Hello!

Tonight I finished the last of the skies I had started in this series of paintings, well all but the two that still refuse to dry! Since one of those that won't dry is the wooded view we were going to follow, lets follow a different meadow view instead. This one has the new colored skies I mentioned the other day. You are looking at the finished sky. Tomorrow I will be able to show the tree and meadow "shadows." Actually almost all of my paintings have their shadows as well. When those are dry, I get to show off finished paintings!! Can't wait!

Happy Saturday!

Hello!

Yes, I'm writing earlier than usual today! My sister got me out of bed early this morning for a 5 mile walk. We have started training to walk a half marathon in October. It was a beautiful morning. We saw wildlife and for me, some new terrain.

I was looking though my posts to see how well we were following the featured three paintings I chose to follow. I discovered I've been neglecting one of the sketches I posted. It is the big barn. Granted, I haven't gotten very far on it yet but there has been progress. Here is the drawing on the canvas and the first coat of sky paint. The wooded field we are following is being very stubborn in the drying department. There are spots on this painting that are refusing to dry. As soon as it FINALLY dries, I will be able to work on it again! I will be able to paint a little today and then I will be out of the studio until tomorrow.

Until next time...

More Paintings!

Good Evening!

Just wanted to check in between brush stokes. I've been working on more skies today as I cycle through paintings. Because I use similar colors in many of my skies, I am able to use the same batch of paint for several paintings so that I am not constantly mixing the same colors over and over. So, this is a picture of the drying table as it looks right now. All of these paintings will be ready for their final colors soon.

Until next time...

Colorful Update

Hello!

I am still waiting for some layers to dry on the three paintings we are following closely so today I worked on others on the agenda. These included the second layer of paint for those colorful skies I showed you a while back. Remember? I know it's been a few days but here are the tree shadows for a couple of the sunset/ sunrise skies I was playing with. So far pretty nice. I have a couple larger skies planned that have some yellow in them like the starting of a setting sun. I can't wait to see how they look. I have another whole day to paint tomorrow so I should have more progress to show then!

Hello!

Today has been a nice quiet day of painting. Here is a progress shot of Round Bails. I have finished the under painted sky. I have also worked on a sky under painting for a wooded view scene.

Follow the round bails

Good Evening!

I am about to test your multi-tasking skills! I have just designed, planned, and wired about 10 canvases to work on in a series. The subjects vary from round bails, to wooded views, to wide open fields. They will each have clouds and this paticular series includes several large sized canvases, the largest 36 x 48! We will not follow ALL of them because I think that could get rather nutty. However, we may attempt to follow two or three at a time.
Tonight I am showing you step two of the round bail sketch I drew yesterday. Here I have transfered the design onto the canvas with a simple line drawing in acrylic grey paint. The next step will be the under painting which I hope to get to tomorrow. This painting will be 15 inches tall and 30 inches wide.
I am also showing you the second barn drawing that I talked about yesterday. I loved the character that this old barn had. I am also playing with the persective of the field in foreground. I love looking at the rows upon rows of crops in a large field. Anyway, here is the preliminary sketch. This painting will be 30 inches tall and 40 inches wide. It's a big one!

Tonight I am working on a couple more sky under paintings since I have plenty of blues mixed. I have 5 rather big shows coming up so I really have to get a bit finished. Be back tomorrow!

Until next time...

Sketching Day

Hello!

Today was the drive back to Ohio. While Chris drove, I was able to go through some of my new photographs and start composing some scenes that I would like to paint. Above is a scan of my first sketch today (click on the picture for a more detailed look, then click the back arrow to return to the blog). I combined an image I took of round bails and drew in with them an image I found of a barn that had round bail stored inside. I like the idea of having bails inside and outside a man made structure. I have two ideas for barn scenes and this is the first. The other I am still solving the foreground on. I have an image in my head but it is a little stubborn making it onto paper! Tonight I will attempt to solve that issue. I will then project the images on canvases so I can start painting.

Until next time...

Weekend in Chicago

Good Morning!

It is good to be back at the computer again! Welcome to any new blog readers from Buffalo Grove, Illinois! I have been in Buffalo Grove for a couple days now, Friday setting up my new tent and walls, yesterday and today out selling my paintings. Yesterday was, AGAIN, rainy in the morning but straightened up later in the day! The rain is becoming a bit of an annoying trend this festival season but it can't be helped. The people who finally got the chance to come out and see the festival were wonderful and my show has been a great success so far! My husband was taking pictures of my booth and caught me smiling. That's what you are seeing in the photo.

Let's see what is next for us all to look forward to? Well, due to my successful show... I have A LOT of painting to do! That is fabulous for me! I've been taking photos of new scenes over the summer and I just got some of them printed. They will be the inspiration and reference for a new series I will be painting. I foresee some fantastic "Follow the Paintings" in our future! See you soon!

Until next time...

New Colors

Hello!

I wanted to quick share my work of last night. When it comes to my paintings, I am fairly well known for my clouds and my blue skies. However, I have been seeing some pretty amazing sunsets lately that include pinks, yellows and purples in the skies. So, last night I tried something new... or at least a new way of going about colorful skies. I've painted silhouettes in the past but I left the foregrounds completely black. I don't see these going in that direction. I see these still having the detail my usual landscapes have, just with a hint of the evening glow. I will keep you updated on their progress! For now, take a look at the beautiful new palette and the new skies I have started!

Until next time...

Happy Tuesday!

Hello! Welcome to my new Westerville readers! This weekend me and my paintings hung out at the Westerville Music and Art Festival. It was a nice time and I thouroughly enjoyed having a show so close to home! The only difficulty was preparing for the weather because the weather reports were a little backwards! We were supposed to have great weather Saturday and lousy weather Sunday. However, we dodged rain drops all day Saturday and had a beautiful Sunday!! It has been quite a wet festival season this year! Yesterday was the usual recovery and "business" day. Today I have been able to get back to the paint and brushes! Yeahhhh!!! Let's see... my evergreens have been very popular lately. They seem to be selling as soon as I can get them painted so I am working on a few more of those! I am also getting ready to do some large detailed peices. I am long overdue for a nice serious painting. We need to get back to following the flag and try out the ideas floating in my head! We will be in touch soon!

Until next time...

New Stuff!

Hello!

Wow! It has been a fabulous couple of days for getting things complete! This was one of those times where the eight things that are started and seem to take forever all of a sudden are done all at once!! Let's see, what shall I show off? Well, I did finish the one round bail painting I mentioned earlier and I also finished another set of evergreens. Those are the sneak peaks here! The round bails are titled "Quiet Day in the Field." This painting measures 12" high by 24" wide. It just seems so still and peaceful to me. The evergreens are a part of a series titled "Secret Hideaway." This painting is 12" high by 9" wide. I remember as a kid running into the evergreens and thinking I entered a whole other world!

I also have a new series of giclee prints made for some of my new work. More about them soon. They will be my new special feature in my booth at Westerville. I will launch the new series officially as soon as I can get the paperwork figured out and printed... stay tuned...

Until next time...

Full Table

Good Morning to all! I hope this note finds you well. Yesterday was full of the usual running of errands that tends to come with both Mondays and returning from a show. However, I was able to get into the studio for a little while last night and continue on the stash of paintings I have been working on to replace what was sold in the past couple shows. Here you see my table of paintings started. The golden fields are actually finished but the others just have their skies and what I have been calling their purple shadows. I should have some new evergreens finished today and perhaps that field of round bails I mentioned earlier. I have also been shuffling through the most recent pictures I took and have some more ideas to add to my list great things to paint!

Until next time...

Happy Saturday!

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good holiday we
ekend! I have one day left of the Boston Mills Artfest. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by and see all the fabulous artists here! I met a wonderful couple here who saw my cow painting and invited me to see their goat farm. I brought my camera and had a blast! Here is a picture of me feeding one of the young ones. The goats were very cute... perhaps a future follow a painting?! So many ideas...

Hello!

Good evening!

I thought I might check in and say hello. I have been painting like a crazy woman whenever I can this week. I sold quite a few paintings in Toledo so now I need to replace them with some new things. The flag painting is temporarily on hold. It keeps calling out to me but I need to fill the holes in my booth before I can put my full attention on it. However, I'm sure I will be back to painting it early next week. The pieces I worked on today are way too wet to get a good picture so I will attempt to post one tomorrow. At the moment I am working on some more evergreens. Next I will work on more round bails. So many paintings, so little time!! Be back soon.

Until next time...
