Work days

Hello! I did not realize so many days went by since I last stopped in. Sorry about that. I have been rather productive though. Let's see, let me recap the days I missed. Saturday, I had a one day show in Groveport, Ohio. I met some lovely people there. Sunday, I FINALLY got my new home put all together and just in time because Memorial Day we had a small cookout with friends. That evening I got to paint on a small sky. Tuesday, I spent all day in the frame shop. It was a busy day for a framer that day. I got to design for some really nice original works of art. Yesterday, I was sewing most of the day. Above is a picture of my latest finished art quilt. This coming Sunday, I am hanging a collection of my art quilts for the month of June at Creekside Home Treasures in the Akron area. I have quite a few piece finished and ready to go but I wanted to have a couple new pieces to round out the collection. Speaking of round, my latest challenge was finishing a round quilt. I think it turned out very nice. Today I am working on some under paintings and quilting another piece I had started a while back. I'm sure to have a new picture tomorrow!

Until next time...

more painting

Hello and Happy Friday to you!

I was just taking a couple pictures of my latest painting spree and thought I would post the triptych I was talking about. Each painting is 5" by 5." It will be interesting to see just how many combinations you would have to hang these. They could go in a straight row, a row up and down, or any combination of diagonal. How versatile! I have another triptych started with a grassy knoll and yet another started with rolled hay bails. I've started out small to see how they work and then I'll probably go a bit bigger on the next batch. So far, so good I think! Enjoy! I am also getting ready for a show tomorrow. I hope these are dry enough to take with me in the morning. I'll have to get the fan going!

Until next time...

A Day of Painting

Hello!

Today was a great day for painting. I put the window up in the studio, enjoyed the day and painted away! I was able to work on a couple tulip paintings today and some clouds too. The picture shows just how fresh the paint is! I am working on my first triptych now. It will have calm clouds and golden fields. Can't wait for you to see those. Perhaps tomorrow?

Until next time...

On a Roll

Good Morning!

Sorry I missed yesterday. I was really hoping to get on because one of my favorite readers had a birthday and I wanted to wish him a great one. So before I miss it even more, Happy Belated Birthday Dad Taylor!

Meanwhile, I did get a little painting done here in the last couple days. Now, I know I mentioned I wanted to start on tulips, and I did get some canvases and photos paired together, but I ended up in the mood for clouds after all! These moody painters... you just can't predict what they'll do next! Anyway, the picture you see is of the prep/ drying table. I painted a few little under paintings. I am actually trying out some tripticts (not sure if I'm spelling it right) where three separate canvas encompass one scene. They will still be painted on all sides so it should be fun to figure out how to make them work together like that. Like yesterday, all of today will be at the frame shop. However, tomorrow I am planning another painting marathon so perhaps I'll get to finish a couple I started!

Until next time...

Back Home

Good Morning!
This past weekend was my first show of the season in East Lansing, MI. Aside from the ever changing weather all weekend, it went pretty well. My blue, cloudy sky paintings were a hit! And... when I had a break here and there on Sunday I was able to take some pretty fantastic cloud pictures. Just in time for another series of blue skies! I only have four under paintings remaining from my first batch and they will be getting details soon. Today, however, I think I am going to work on a tulip or two. Ever since I came back from Kingwood Center Mother's Day Weekend, I have been thinking about them so I am printing some pictures now that I can refer to while I'm painting. If I get a progress shot later, I will certainly post it!

Until next time...

Finshed!

Hello! I have just finished painting my big follow a painting! This is called "Lazy Day." It is 30 inches wide by 40 inches high. It was a lot of fun to paint the grass. When I first started adding individual blades, I thought it would be quite a chore but it turned out quite the opposite really. They all seemed to know right where they were supposed to go! I really must have been in the mood to paint grass and I'm very glad for that! If I'm lucky, the fan and the nice day will help it dry so I can take it with me to East Lansing this weekend. Enjoy! Now we can follow something new... perhaps a tulip or two? We shall see!

Until next time...

Where's the barn?!

Hello

It has been a fun couple of days getting some finals strokes of paint on before my first show. As I was inventing new and beautiful scenes to go with my (what was it 14?) cloudy skies, I painted these wonderful grass scenes on 10 x 10 canvases. So.. when I was playing with the sky of Clouds over harvested corn, the wheels in my brain started turning and thought this was a perfect layout for a large grassy scene. The result is that the barn has moved to another canvas and a hill has taken it's place! I love being able to change my mind!!! The purple underpainting of the hill isn't dry yet so the green blades are still waiting to hop on. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I'll be able to get the grass on. It's got a fan on it, helping it dry a little. I really want it for Saturday so we'll see how that goes. Can't rush oils though... they have they're own time schedule!

Until next time...

Rainy Day

Hello! Today was a soggy day outside so it was a perfect day to paint ALL day! It was fantastic! I had several under paintings waiting for me and I was able to add final colors and details on them today. Tomorrow I will try to get some pictures when there is better light. The large clouds are still waiting for me but I got a few smaller ones finished that should be dry in time for next weekend's travel.

Until next time...

Another picture

Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all those mothers reading this! I actually took my mother out today. We went to Kingwood Center and enjoyed many flower beds full of thousands of tulips. It was the most perfect day for it. Here is just two of the gorgeous pictures my husband took today that are candidates for painting inspiration! Enjoy! Tomorrow is an all out painting marathon... cannot wait to post some finished paintings!

Until next time...

Good Morning!

Today is my first full day this week to work in the studio. I expect a couple interruptions but hopefully I can get a good chunk done. My biggest goal is to finish the quilt that is due for Mother's Day. It should probably be finished first! However, it has been brought to my attention by a very loyal reader of my blog that I forgot to post something a while back. I was working on the t-shirt quilt and mentioned I would post a picture. Well, I was so eager to get that quilt delivered I forgot to actually get a finished picture of it. However, I did get a picture in progress and I am posting that here. Thank you for keeping me on my toes!!

Until next time...

Hello!

Good morning!

It's great to write again. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure why it's been so long since I wrote last. The days just sorta got away from me. I have finally gotten back into the studio as much full time as possible. I have my first show coming up May 17th and 18th. It will be in East Lansing. Because it takes a bit for oils to dry, I usually make sure I have all paintings I want for a particular show ready one week ahead so that I am not traveling with wet paintings. So, this week is crunch time on East Lansing paintings. I have a nice collection so far but you always want to make sure you have more than plenty! I am still making progress on my big sky but it's not really exciting progress yet so I am showing a picture of some skies I just finished for extra paintings for East Lansing. Two of them will be grassy knolls and the big one I think will feature some trees... maybe some spring colors in there. They will be ready for me by about Thursday. Meanwhile, I am also working on a portrait quilt for a mothers day order. With all this going on, I should have no excuses for not keeping in touch! See you tomorrow!

Until next time...
